Natural Hair Restoration: How Does PRP Work to Promote Hair Regrowth?
Hair loss becomes more common as we get older, taking a toll not only on our appearance but on our confidence, too. The good news is that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy can help. Here’s how.

Unfortunately, hair loss is a common issue for both men and women. Data show that about 80% of men and about half of women experience hair loss at some point. While hair loss is definitely upsetting, the good news is that it can be treated—without invasive surgery.

At Vivash Medspa, our team helps women and men combat hair loss and enjoy thicker, fuller, sexier manes with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. Learn about the science behind PRP and how it could help you restore your luscious, sexy locks.

How PRP works

PRP contains two components of blood: the liquid part called plasma and tiny cell fragments called platelets, which play important roles in healing. Platelets contain proteins called growth factors that “activate” to promote tissue repair and recovery.

Shaped like hollow dishes or plates, tiny platelets transform when triggered by tissue injury, growing long “tentacles” that work to stop bleeding and repair and replace damaged cells, including the cells involved in hair growth.

At the same time, platelets promote blood vessel growth, improving circulation to your cells for better delivery of oxygen and essential nutrients. Combined, these effects help repair damaged follicles and nourish surrounding tissue, creating an ideal healthy hair growth and regeneration environment.

PRP is also used in anti-aging treatments to jump-start healing following an injury or during surgery. For hair loss, PRP injections “reboot” dormant follicles while supporting active follicles for healthier, thicker hair growth.

PRP treatment: What to expect

PRP therapy is performed right in our office using a small sample of your blood. Once the sample is drawn, we process it in a special device that separates the plasma and platelets from the rest of the blood. The resulting solution — PRP — is reinjected around the follicles.

Before injections, we numb your scalp, so you stay relaxed and comfortable. The entire process takes about an hour or less. Since PRP is nonsurgical, there are no incisions and no scars afterward.

Most people begin to see treatment results within a few weeks as growth factors kick into gear, stimulating circulation and follicle activity. Our team helps you maximize results with a custom care routine and touch-up treatments as needed.
