LASER HAIR REMOVAL

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Laser hair removal is a no-down time procedure to get rid of areas of unwanted hair. Concentrated light is beamed and targets the pigment in hair follicles. The process results in the destruction of these hair follicles for extended periods of time. At Vivash, Mahopac we use Inmode’s DiolazeXl for effective laser hair removal in Putnam County. This treatment is safe for all skin types.

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal targets hair follicles using highly concentrated light, which is then absorbed by the pigment in the hair’s root. This damages the follicle, impairing its ability to grow hair. The treatment is able to precisely target dark, coarse hairs while keeping the surrounding skin safe and intact.

Laser treatment for hair removal is often used on the face, underarms, legs, backs, and bikini area. This treatment is often favored by those who want a quick hair-removal procedure and a technique that promotes permanent hair loss after a few sessions.

Ideal candidates

Individuals who have unwanted body hair and are tired of regularly shaving may consider laser hair removal. It is most suitable for people with light skin and thick, dark hair. The greater the contrast between the hair and skin color, the easier the follicles can absorb the heat.

Laser hair removal may not work for people with darker skin or white, blonde, red, or gray hair. It is not recommended for people taking anti-acne medications or pregnant women. People who have cold sores or genital herpes, have skin cancer or recovering from it, or have a history of getting keloid scars may not be good candidates.

What happens during the laser hair removal consultation?

Before the treatment, you will consult with us so that we can determine if you are a suitable candidate. We will ask about your history of skin problems, scarring, and hair-removal procedures you have tried before. We will also discuss the risks and benefits.

We will suggest a treatment plan during the consultation and provide cost estimates. You will also be given pre-treatment instructions, such as avoiding sun exposure and certain other hair-removal methods, shaving the target areas, and avoiding blood-thinning medications.

What is laser hair removal like?

Laser hair removal procedures usually start with cleaning the target area and having the patient wear protective goggles. Next, the treatment handpiece will be used to emit laser energy towards the targeted follicles. The patient may feel a mild stinging sensation. The procedure may last up to an hour.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed can vary from patient to patient. Most of our patients do four to six treatments sessions four weeks apart. Once the desired results are achieved then a maintenance schedule will begin.

How long will my results last and how often will I need maintenance?

Results can last for months to even years. We recommend maintenance treatments 1-times a year for most patients.

Is there any downtime?

No. Laser hair removal is a no down time procedure, and you can resume normal activities immediately after treatment. You may experience mild swelling and redness a few hours after the treatment. Put an ice pack against the affected area as directed.

After the laser hair removal treatment, you should avoid tanning, exercising, and using jacuzzis for a day. Avoid sun exposure and strenuous activities, and always wear sunscreen.

How do I prepare for my laser hair removal appointment?

We recommend that you shave prior to your appointment. You should not pluck, tweeze, or wax in the two weeks prior to treatments.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

The cost of getting laser hair removal is influenced by factors like the size of the target area, the time needed to finish the treatment, and the number of treatments required. Make sure to ask about the price estimate for the treatment during your consultation.
